Live NARC brief » The Front cover

This is the orginal front cover but there are some tweeks to the final.

The whole idea behind the idea is that this is a generic design, in other words it doesn’t single any specific featured band on the cd. The plug I think is representitive to every live band in their industry and far more exciting the the stereotypical ‘MICROPHONE’
The idea came to me when I was searching through 1001 album art from like 1920′s record sleaves to 2001 cd covers. The inspiration album art that caught my eye and holding by far the most potential was that of Bruce Springsteen with the American cap hanging out his back pocket, simple, iconic and powerful yet thoughtful.
I would nearly always associate jeans with band members, so I put my design onto my jeans pocket.

The whole process was completely enthrilling from a consultation with Peter Chadwick to picking my pocket off, endless trial and errors more errors I may add to the Toyota stitching machine in screen printing upstairs in college and right through to the photoshoot with a fantastic photographer whose name I can’t remember to delivering/selling my idea to representatives of the media company. It was just mind blowing and electric.

2 weeks later we sat in a group of 50/60 students and force fed our outcomes and I am pleased to say that it was an overall victory for our second year ND students with as many as 7/8 in the final 12. My design won me runner up and I am just grateful for the recognition of the sophisticated elements and determination to create the best artwork that was possible. The physical demand to finish this piece was overwhelming not to mention the mental stress of the trial and errors but perseverance will always prevail and only designers with the passion and commitment in abundence that I have will really bring success to their work.
